“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good work”. Titus 2:11-14.

The phrase “The Day of the Lord” is used nineteen times in the Old Testament and six times in the New Testament. That day is going to be a period of time in which God will deal with wicked men directly and dramatically in a fearful judgement. It is true the Lord God Almighty is Merciful, Gracious, Slow to anger, Long suffering, Patient and Just, but will not relent to spare any act of impudent and impenitent.

“Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger… And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity: and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible”. Isaiah 13 :9-11.

Another caution is found in Zephaniah 1:14-16 “The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord :the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness. A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.” On that Day of visitation of the Lord Almighty, it could be judgement, destruction or blessings and deliverance. Where shall your glory be? Which is going to be your choice,? “Sing, O daughter of Zion: shout, O Israel: be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. The Lord hath taken away thy judgements, He hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord is in the mist of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.” Zephaniah 3:14-15.

A time of rejoicing, deliverance and blessing where Jesus Christ will direct and rule the affairs of this earth. The truth about the day of wrath – the visitation and the coming of Christ Jesus for the church is revealed to mankind in I Thessalonians 5:2 and 2 Peter 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up “. On that Day, shall be howling, gnashing of teeth, anguish, wailing and lamentations.

In Rev 6:15-17, teaches us that both kings of the earth, mighty, rich, slave and every free man, shall cry out and say” to the mountains and rocks, fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb “. In Heb 10 :31 “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God “. That great day of the Lord is coming, who is able to with stand it? God is merciful and gracious all the time, but on that period, there shall be no second chance, no second chance for intercessory, neither shall there be forgiveness. The Prophet Isaiah describes it as a day of “wrath and fierce anger”. Zephaniah said it shall be a day of  “wrath, distress, desolation, darkness and gloominess”. In the book of Amos, “it shall be darkness and not light”. The day of the Lord will come suddenly and unexpectedly with continuous, perpetual and everlasting judgement with great tribulation.

How can mankind escape this fierce anger and wrath from the hands of the mighty God?  “Say unto them, as I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked: But that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways, for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”. This is a direct plea of REPENTANCE from a Just and Fair God, who hath called us unto holiness and righteousness and not unto uncleanness.” For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ”.

God Almighty who in times past admonished mankind through His prophets is again proclaiming this to a defiant and rebellious children of today.“Hear this now, O foolish people, without understanding, who have eyes and see not, and have ears and hear not: Do you not fear Me? Says the Lord. Will you not tremble at My presence.” Jeremiah 5:21-22.

Brethren, that Day is at hand and it shall be full of trouble, pain and lamentations. This is the time for us to abstain ourselves from worldly lusts. The need therefore to aspire to present our soul, body and spirit blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all trembling and with complete obedience . This is the will of God!

O heavenly Father, May You teach us how to remain watchful and be sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love to enable us unworthy as we are, the chance to obtain salvation. In humbleness we beseech Thee through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
