DESPISE NOT HIS CORRECTION

DESPISE_NOT_HIS_CORRECTION

Sermon By Ebenezer W. Appiah – Walk 2 Live

A death row inmate awaiting execution asked, as a last wish a pencil and a paper. The convict called the prison officer and requested the letter be handed over to his mother.

The letter read… ” Mother, if there were more justice in this world, we would be both executed and not just me. You’re as guilty as I am for the life I led. Do you remember the time I stole money from the neighbour’s wallet? You went with me to the mall to spend it. Do you remember when I argued with my father and he’s gone? He just wanted to correct me because I stole the final result of the competition. I was just a just child in need of correction and not approval”.

Another death row inmate by name ODELL BARNES, while awaiting execution requested for; Justice, Equality and World Peace as his last wish. “My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments. For the length of days, and long life and peace shall they add to thee”. Proverb 3:1-2.

We can as well juxtapose to our various homes, workplaces, Churches and corridors of academia at large, aside from the numerous examples of correction and caution against sin and its consequences in the Bible. There are instances where male figures face stiffer opposition from their spouses who most of the time encourage and approve the misbehaviour of their children. Some parents too, go to the extent of harassing and threatening school teachers for spanking their children.

Madeleine Murray O’Hare complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools and she got people to back her. Another advocate said the Bible should not be read in schools and people okayed it. Then Dr Benjamin Spock said spanking of children in schools must be abolished because it might damage their self-esteem and people gave him support. No wonder Barrack Obama gave approval for same-sex marriage and said: “it was a victory for democracy”. Rev. Gene Robinson, Episcopalian Bishop of New Hampshire is openly gay and he got applauded for that. We have top athletes and famous personalities in the entertainment industry doing what is abominable, perverting the youth and society at large.   “My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of His correction. For whom the Lord, loveth He correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth”.Proverbs 3:11-12.

No wonder, drug trafficking and addiction, abortion, prostitution, homosexuality, child abuse and trafficking are outrageously increasing. The fact that God loves us and has even placed us above His angels does not imply there shall be no judgement or punishment. For this reason, God Almighty has sent His only begotten son on this sinful and wicked world, that we should believe, trust and obey by imitating and walking in His footsteps.”For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness”. 1 Thessalonians 4:7.

Much as we have freedom of association, worship and choices, so the mighty God hath given us the free will of choosing between  “light and dark” or, “good and evil” because His grace that brings salvation has appeared to all men.“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”.Deuteronomy 30:19. Loving the Lord, obeying and cleaving to Him is all there is for our salvation.

The word of God is quick, sharp and is consistently reminding mankind that there is a judgement day and God is going to pour His vengeance of unquenchable fire on those who knew not God and obeyed not His gospel through Jesus Christ.

Finally brethren, God Almighty is calling us to amend our sinful ways and turn unto Him with a repented heart in total obedience to keeping all His commandments written for our admonition in the Holy Scriptures.”For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ”.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, may you strengthen our feeble minds and wicked hearts and support us to be able to possess our bodies in sanctification and honour to your Holy name. In Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen
